Introduction to Visualization

Course Overview

Learn the processes of scene and project planning, composition , modelling, lighting, materials, rendering and critiquing.

If you are a interior designer looking to improve your renders for your presentations, or if your an aspiring artist looking to gain more insight into the 3D rendering process and how 3D renders are created, this course will cover all the basics on your journey to producing high quality CGIs.

You MUST have prior experience with a 3D modelling program.

What you WON'T learn

We will not teach you advanced techniques for creating CGI's and photorealistic images. This course is for the basic foundations and learning the correct process for 3D rendering

  • How to Communicate through imagery

  • 3dsMax (interface and navigation overview)
  • Corona (interface and navigation overview)

2:30 pm to 2:45 pm - Short Break

Session 5

  • Working with a scene (interior or exterior)
  • Scene Organisation (layers and groups)
  • Planning and Research (find out what you want to do)
  • Basic Modelling methods (edit poly, importing assets)
  • Basic Composition (camera settings and common rules)
  • Basic Lighting (sun and sky, artificial lights)
  • Basic Materials (metals, plastics, glass - PBR)
  • Rendering with Corona (settings, light mix)
  • Frame buffer editing (exposure, glare, bloom, denoising, sharpen, lightmix)

4:45 pm to 5:00 pm - Short Break

  • Reviewing your work
  • Question & Answers session

5:30 pm - Casual Chat and Nibblies (Voluntary)


Very basic experience in a 3D application.

A keen interest in 3D.

Software Used

Autodesk 3dsMax.

Corona Renderer.

The AVI will provide you with everything you need to complete the course: Workstation, mouse, keyboard, notepad, pen, and software.

Feel free to bring a USB or harddrive to save any work you might want to take home with you.
